Apps are all the rage in today's world, and can make exercising easier and way more fun!Fitness apps decorate the app market, providing handy and simple routines for anyone looking to get in shape easily. While some are better than others, the ones on this list will produce results that others will notice before you do! |
1. Fitness 22 LTD's Ultimate Fitness Bundle
The only one on this list with a big price, the Ultimate Fitness Bundle has everything you’ll need for strength training! For just $25, you will be getting apps that time and decide your reps for the following exercises: pull-ups, sit-ups, push-ups, squats, and running up to a half-marathon. While costly, each of these apps will last a long time and even have an option to play music inside of the app after syncing with your music library. The prompts for starting and stopping within the apps are voiced as well. The format for each of the apps is a warm-up, the exercise, and then a cool-down. Some have more cool-downs than others due to including more reps. The exercise platform is designed to build you up over time for a gradual increase in all-around fitness. |
Pacing for 5ks and 10ks are included as well and are incredibly helpful for increasing speed. However, we know that not everyone is willing to spend $25 on a bunch of fitness apps. The same company offers their normal versions in a separate, $8.99 bundle and have a separate bundle for their push-up, squat, pull-up, and sit-up apps with upgraded versions of the push-up and sit-up apps for $10.99. The upgraded versions are just “the next level” for whatever exercise you’re doing. This means that not all apps on the bundle will be downloaded at once which leaves room for the other apps on this list.
2. 7-Minute Workout Challenge
A much cheaper alternative to the above, the 7-Minute Workout Challenge is a collection of exercises to be done individuals in 30-second bursts followed by a brief respite before moving onto the next exercise. There are in-app purchases available for more exercises, but those can be attained for free by simply using the app daily. Almost everyone I know has 7 minutes a day they can afford to spend on working out, so this is both cost and time-efficient in terms of a fitness app.
3. Charity Miles
What if I told you that for every mile you walked, ran, or biked a few cents would be donated to charity? You were going to exercise anyways, so why not give back to the world while doing so?
With Charity Miles, you can do exactly that! The app is free to download, so it costs you nothing to donate to charity. Couple that with a good run and this app has benefits far beyond just physical improvement. The more people that use the app, the more charities that receive donations! As an IB Student, this could also arguably be used for CAS hours as you’re providing a service- raising money- and receiving nothing for it.

4. Nike Training Club
Another free app, Nike training club offers a wide selection of fitness videos that can be performed at home with no equipment. Being able to see the right way to do an exercise as well as using the app as a tool to find new exercises make Nike Training Club a must have for anyone looking to improve their fitness from home. This is probably the closest thing to a gym membership you can get on the app store, and it’s completely free. As long as you don’t mind signing up for an account, you’ll be able to access these videos and the training programs offered by Nike! I’d definitely recommend this if spending money isn’t your thing.
5. Spotify
Free to download, but for $9.99 a month you can get the premium version. While not specifically a workout app, Spotify has a feature called Spotify Running which finds the tempo you’re running at and then plays a song to match your pacing. The songs come in many different genres and are intended to make your running experience even better and more motivating.
Having a workout playlist is great and all, but sometimes your favorite song seems unfitting when you begin to slow down. Spotify Running solves this problem by matching your running “mood” to a fitting song. Even if you’re not running, Spotify can be used to listen to music during any workout. With an incredible number of songs and well-deserved popularity, adding this to your collection of fitness apps will only make you want to work out more!
